Window dressings have become popular all of a sudden. And no, we are not talking only of valances and curtains. For we aren’t old school that way at all!
Walk down any street in the country that sells old souvenirs and household items and you are bound to find at least one shop that sells old and worn down window frames. From the simple ones to elegantly carved styles, you can find these at throw-away prices. For a DIY lover, these frames present a window of opportunity (pun intended!) to add some quirk to your sedate homes. Here are four of our favorite ways of using old window frames to revamp your home:
#1. Make a photo frame
Want to make an attention-garnering display of your favorite pictures in a not-so-usual way? An old window frame is the perfect way to do so. You can either stick the pictures on the back of the window glass with some clear tape or use wires to hold them, and voila! you have a ready-made picture frame right before you. If you are using old, black and white family pics, try a distressed effect on the wood for some colour as well.
#2. Work the vintage appeal
Find a bi- or tri-fold window frame and use it as a divider for your room. Throw on some lace and chintz, or a vintage-y fabric for a throwback look. If you have left over wall paper with say a fleur-de-lis design even that would work wonders. We are just drooling over this piece of inspiration below, aren’t you?
#3. Light up your wall
No money in your pocket for an expensive wall décor? Worry not! Count the pennies and buy yourself a string of fairy lights. Wrap it around a square frame and hang it up on an accent wall for some luminous goodness. Look at this wall for instance; isn’t it just drool-worthy?
#4. Just go crazy!
Because sometimes crazy is super fun! For instance this window frame here is just a collage of glass pieces stuck don with super glue. You can make your own mosaic art this way with glass or tiles, and create a centrepiece for your living room that no-one can take their eyes off.
So how do you like these super ideas we have for art from scrap glass frames, eh? Of course this isn’t an exhaustive or restrictive list of the amazing ways in which you can recycle old windows, so do make sure to tell us your ideas on the same! Till then, keep those windows open and let some creativity flood in!
